One of my greatest accomplishments was cofounding a Girls Who Code (GWC) chapter in Gainesville, Florida that continues to thrive and teach students to this day. We have taught over 15 students from elementary to high school, and we have brought on just as many club facilitators, 6 of which are pictured above.
From Fall 2018 to Spring 2019, I served as a lesson plan developer, facilitator trainer, and instructor. Then in Fall 2020, the chapter was forced to go completely virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result, I was able to volunteer again. I’m currently helping teach my 5th semester of GWC, and I consider it one of the most rewarding activities in my daily life.
For more information, please check out my undergraduate thesis, which discusses students’ experiences in the Spring 2019 cohort. And here is an example of a Halloween-themed lesson plan I recently created for students with teaching guidelines for our facilitators.
