The first Brain Drone Race took place in Spring 2016 at the University of Florida. This exciting and innovative race used Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) to control drones in a drag race using participants’ electrical brain signals.
The following summer, I collaborated with 4 fellow research assistants to carry out a procedural improvement project for the Brain Drone Race. We reproduced the original race, identified areas of improvement, developed/tested potential additions, and documented the process to enable organizations to replicate our work and hold their own races. We also recorded project progress on a personal project website.
I was selected for this project as part of the Distributed Research Experience for Undergraduates (DREU) program. The DREU program is promoted by the Computing Research Association – Widening Participation (CRA-WP) and the Coalition to Diversify Computing (CDC). For more information on the program, please visit the DREU website.
