Nice to Meet You!

When I first meet someone my favorite thing to find out is either:

  1. What book they are currently reading
  2. What was the last truly good book they read

So as you can expect, I will share with you what’s on my bookshelf. I’m currently reading The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennet. I just started so please no spoilers! And the last truly good book I read was The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.

I recommend this book to anyone currently living in Chicago or generally interested in the city. It’s filled with nuggets of information. You get a true feel for the famous 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition Fair and a sense for the huge personalities that made Chicago what it is today. There is a parallel storyline about the infamous serial killer in Chicago at the time. However, in my opinion, this just serves to create a stark contrast between the good and evil that abounded in this wild, early Chicago. The true star of the book is the fair in all its glory, innovative technology, and trend setting influence.

If you have a good book recommendation or are looking for one, don’t hesitate to leave a comment!
